IUD???

Question

I understand the risks of getting an IUD.. I’m not asking about them. I’m getting one for the first time tomorrow afternoon and I was wondering if it hurts?? How long it usually takes for the procedure????

It was pretty uncomfortable. I just got mine a couple weeks ago. Take ibuprofen before you go to help with discomfort and cramping will have afterwards. I felt extremely crampy afterwards for a few hours. Also take pads cause you will likely spot. I’m still spotting and obgyn told me spotting can last up to 20 days after. It’s not much at all just annoying lol the whole procedure took about 10 min

I got the mirena 2 weeks ago at 9w pp. It was pretty similar to a Pap smear but crampy - like period cramping. It took probably 2-3 minutes. I’m still spotting from it and have had really mild cramps.

I was told that the insertion is easier postpartum because you are still somewhat dilated. I got mine at 6 weeks pp, and it wasn’t painful. Uncomfortable but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. They will insert the speculum like a Pap smear, then you will feel some pressure and tugging as they insert it. It only took a few minutes. I had some discomfort after and some bleeding. After that I have spotted off and one for the few weeks I have had it.

I’ve had 3 IUDs, 2 before having my baby and 1 after. The first two were a little uncomfortable during insertion but not bad. The third (after baby) I barely even felt. Some mild cramping for a day or two but nothing an ibuprofen didn’t help. I had spotting for about a week after I think. 
I loved my IUDs and will most likely get another after having this 2nd baby.
