I would defiantly get it looked at. It looks like they got a hang nail or a small cut that got infected. I normally wouldn't say anything but I guy I went to school with had the same thing on his finger and it was infected. I hope everything is okay.

Looks like an infected hang nail I had one a few weeks ago it hurt like hell. I had to drain it with a needle.
