Skyla removed today after 3.25 years 🎉 start of TTC journey

Nicollette • 👩🏾‍💼👨🏾‍💼👦🏾💍😸😻 33. Wife. Cat mom.

I liked Skyla but her time is up.

The cons:

I gained about 20lbs, have had frequent yeast and BV infections, and started getting bartholins cysts since I started on Skyla. My periods also got longer (used to be 4-5 days, now I average 9 LONG days of bleeding). My body just doesn’t like hormones, but it was the lowest dosage I could get and the smallest device so 🤷🏾‍♀️

The pros:

I worried that I would need to get used to taking pregnancy tests if I completely lost my cycle so I intentionally chose the low dose IUD. I have have had regular periods for the last 2.5 years (first few months were spotty as my body adjusted).

I’ve never had a pregnancy scare so that’s nice.

Pills were annoying to remember and also made me pre hypertensive (gave me very high blood pressure to the point when working out felt like I was gonna die). My old OB took me off of pills and I opted for the Skyla so that I would be protected from unplanned pregnancy. I never got pregnant and my blood pressure returned to an acceptable level so Skyla was great.

Im ready to TTC so three years was the perfect amount of time for me to have the IUD inserted.

Once I have kids (🤞🏿), I’ll just monitor my ovulation and use condoms — I don’t plan to get another IUD anytime in the near future.
