Birth was not how I expected!

FINALLY it’s my turn to write my birth story. I’ve loved reading everyone’s birth stories while my little one was baking. As I saw more and more August mommas (and even some September mommas 😩) have their babies, my due date came closer and closer with no baby in sight. I was SO sure that I would give birth when I was 37-38 weeks, long before I even got there. But nope, my little boy was too snug.

I had to be induced on my due date the 22nd of August, because there was only one vein in his umbilical cord so he wasn’t getting as much nutrients as needed, we excepted him to be very small so he needed to come out so he could get some liquid gold to grow!

So, my due date arrived and I got the taxi to the hospital 9am. I was being induced using the balloon catheter and seeing that I’m a FTM they told me the balloon could stay put up to 36 hours. For anyone wondering; it didn’t hurt to insert the balloon, it felt a bit weird to walk around and sit down but it wasn’t bad. I hadn’t been checked internally before that day because that’s not the norm here, so that was the worst part for me - not pleasant! 8H after they put the balloon in it fell out while i went to the toilet, I felt like I really had to pee but I couldn’t get it out - I was so scared that something was wrong with me!! Then I felt it. It was sliding out of me and it was the weirdest feeling ever. I was shook! There was some bleeding and I lost my mucous plug with it so it was a bit messy and i wasn’t sure what to do so I just put the balloon back in my trousers and wobbled our to the nurses and went “hi, uh.. my balloon fell out ?!” And pointed to my thigh which had a big bulk pointing out 😂 they told me I just had to throw it in the bin and that was it, then they went and put me on the monitor - baby was fine and I was experiencing some contractions, but they weren’t any bad.

By a few more hours later of waiting for stuff to happen the nurses told me that there was a lot of women in labour all of a sudden, so they just didn’t have the capacity to continue my induction at that point and that I should just try and get some sleep, FAIR ENOUGH. It was getting late and I was pretty tired as I hadn’t slept much the night before, too many nerves. I told my mother to go home and come back first thing in my he morning.

At 12am My contractions started to get rather painful so I called for a nurse and asked for something that would help me sleep, she gave me some paracetamol and a heating pad. It helped a bit and I got about 2 and a half hours sleep before I woke up by the painful contractions once again. They got worse and worse and by 5am I once again called a nurse and asked for more pain relief but I was apparently not in labour (she didn’t check my dilation or anything, so how would she know) so there wasn’t much she could give me except a new heating pad 🙄 she told me a doctor would come and monitor me in one and a half hour, which they did - then they forgot about me!! I was laying there being monitored and my contractions was getting pretty bad at that point, usually they just monitor for 10-20 minutes, I was for over an hour! When another doctor and a nurse came in they were shocked and started apologising. Then they checked me and I was only 4cm dilated but they were happy to tell me they didn’t have to induce me after all because the balloon and my body had done the work for them 💪🏻💪🏻 they then broke my water and (I didn’t have a lot of water left so I didn’t hear a pop and i barely noticed it, I hadn’t been leaking but it was just not a lot) I was moved to the room I was going to give birth in and and the midwife gave me some laxatives so I could empty myself before the labour started for real. It was such a relief, I’ve been so constipated throughout the entire pregnancy so that was niiiice 👌🏻in the meantime my mother asked for an epidural on my behalf (I had stated I wanted that), good thing she did because i was already crying my eyes out from the excruciating pain, although I was still only 4cm dilated🤷🏽‍♀️

I got laughing gas which was alright, it took the edge off the contractions for a bit while we waited for the epidural.

It. Didn’t. Work. 😭😭😭

Apparently my back is a bit complicated because I was NOT getting the full effect, and although a few hours had gone by I was STILL only a 4. My contractions was giving me no rest, and I was in so much pain I was telling the midwife to put me out of my misery 😂💀 my mother (god bless mothers) asked if we could get another epidural. The midwife got a bit iffy but saw the state I was in and agreed. So they took out my first epidural and put in the new one. I have no idea how people can go natural, I mean - I have so much more respect for people that do now than before. You women are WARRIORS.

I don’t know if the epidural worked too well or something, but I didn’t feel a single contractions after, and I got some rest and a bit to eat before I was all of a sudden at 8cm dilated! I went from staying at 4 for hours, to 8 in like an hour. Then an hour later I was at a 10, we were waiting a bit because they wanted my pelvic to open up a bit more or something like that I don’t even know. The urge to “poop” got stronger and stronger and my butthole hurt pretty bad, even with the epidural but far from as bad as the contractions so it was very manageable. I told the midwife that i wasn’t sure if I was able to not push anymore and she gave me the green light and told me that we could try a practice push. Needles to say I did pretty good 😇😇 and she called in a nurse and a doctor - another midwife was supposed to come too but she didn’t make it - and within 5 minutes of pushing he was out! Just before my last push the doctor mumbled that maybe they should cut me, I did luckily not hear that myself or I would have freaked out. I didn’t even tear, so that was a relief.

It honestly didn’t hurt one bit to push him out, and I’m THE biggest pussy when it comes to pain. It felt like I was super constipated and had to take the biggest shit of my life, and that’s about it!

I looked like hell, so sorry (but not sorry; I had just pushed out an entire human being and although it was wayyy easier than expected it still was tiring) in case anyone feels bad when they see all those perfect mommas straight after birth with makeup and nice hair. Yeah nope. Chill.

Konrad was born 3:20pm and is 48cm long and weighs 2730g, not as small as anticipated and he passed all health checks! ♥️♥️

Sorry about the long read but I just wanted to put in every single detail. Also sorry about any grammar mistakes - it’s a bit hard to concentrate when you got a cute little baby boy sleeping on your arm, making the cutest little grunts and funny “angry/serious” facial expressions 😍

He’s a bit swollen so he looked a bit Asian at first, which was totally adorable. But he’s started to get his actual facial structures shining through the swelling now ♥️ I was surprised at the amount of hair, and how dark it is. I’m Norwegian and was pretty light haired when I was born, and his father is English and blonde. But I couldn’t be happier about how he looks, and how healthy and happy he seems!!

Mommas boy ♥️

Edit: Omg how do I change the group? I posted it in the wrong one 😩 🙄
