I need responses please!

My friend has brought this situation in her relationship to my attention and I’m extremely concerned. The other day she was talking to me about her boyfriend and brought up that he was upset because she had lied to him in the past. She told me he decided to hit and grab her aggressively to demonstrate his “forever” internal pain that her lying caused. Why would anyone think this is okay!?
