Metformin and PCOS

I was recently given metformin for my PCOS after having no help for over 8yrs. I had the choice of this or the pill but I'm intolerant or hormonal meds. The dr said this should help with my weight and should help me loose a little then look at other issues to see about alternatives. Has anyone taken this and has it helped with weight symptoms? I've also been given a cream to help with extreme facial hair growth, has anyone used it and had good results? Tia
