Getting to know Alex (Chapter 2)
My alarm clock rang at 5:00 AM. I groaned as I swung my legs over the bedside. I followed my daily routine. Hair in buns, makeup, clothes & gear, shove something in my mouth to eat and get out the door. As I open the door I see Alex leaning against his. He smiles and my heart flutters.
“Good morning Clarke! Pretty rainy today don’t you think?” I look at him with a smirk, trying to think of something witty.
“I’m not quite sure that ‘rainy’ is a word.” He rolls his eyes and stands tall. “How about I walk you to your car? I brought an umbrella!” He pulls a folded umbrella from behind his back.
“I hope you don’t stop greeting me every morning. I just might get attached.” I say half jokingly, but in my head knowing fully well that I already am. He chuckles, “We wouldn’t want that, now would we?” He winks. My insides melt away. As we start to head towards the stairs my phone buzzes. It’s a text from my chief.
“My boss says I can stay home today. What the hell am I going to do with myself? It’s a Friday. I never get 3 day weekends.” Alex jumps up and down, “I have the PERFECT idea. Spend the day with me. I know you’re just dying to see my messy apartment.” The thought of stepping inside his comfort zone made my stomach turn. Our relationship was confined to our complexes hallway and parking lot. This was a lot to take on. I looked at him and nodded. We turned around and approached his door. He swung it open and it hit the wall with a thud. “Welcome welcome. Make yourself at home.”
