I am so intrigued by this difference from UK vs. US “Norms”. I would love to hear more perspectives on not wanting an epidural or why it’s maybe not encouraged by doctors or midwives. This is 100% judgement free zone!  Both sides welcome!

I think it’s not that it’s not common but I do feel they don’t like giving them. Quite a few friends of mine have gone into labour wanting one and the docs/midwife has put it off as it’s been “Their first” and “there’s lots of time” “ your not far enough along” then all of a sudden your too far and cant have one 🤨
Its like they avoid it for as long as they can

With my first I had to be induced due to preeclampsia and other complications so an epidural was inevitable however I really did not want one. I ended up being taken to theatre after birth and needed another spinal as the epidural had snapped hours earlier and ceased to work anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️ hoping not to need one this time round.
