Birthing the placenta?

So... do they just pull it out? Or do you have to push it out too? How long after the baby is born??

Ohhhh girl, you push that sucker out. 
And I have to be honest, it hurt me. I had a natural birth in our car and it still hurt when the placenta came out. But once that’s done, it’s alll over. 😉

They asked me to give a small push - as far as time goes, I have no clue. I lost all track of time, but my guess would be 15-30 minutes after birth.

They should NOT pull it out! That can cause you to hemorrhage. The best thing is for them to leave you the heck alone and (if you’re BF), have baby try to latch which will help stimulate your uterus to shrink/the placenta to detach and you can naturally deliver it.

I didn't push the dr pushed on my stomach and pulled it out took about 10mins

It detaches from your uterus, they massage it to stimulate the detachment...it loosens and comes out. They gently pull it out and make sure you’re not hemorrhaging. Really no pushing involved that I can remember...

Sometimes they’ll give it a little tug along with your contractions to help it along, but it can be dangerous to just pull it out. I was doing skin to skin with my son and felt it come out, it was instant relief. I can’t remember exactly how far apart it was, but it had to have been like 15 minutes.

I've had both. My doctor pulled it out which actually hurt. My last doctor had me push but it was the easiest thing ever and did not yet.

I haven’t given birth, but I’ve researched it. They say that your uterus will start contracting back to a smaller size (breastfeeding immediately helps this) and as the uterus gets smaller, the placenta detaches and you just give a small push and it comes out. That’s if there are no complications. Hoping it goes that smoothly for me when this little baby is born!

You should give a small push and it will come out. I actually don't think I really had to push, it just sort of came out, they didn't pull it. It want painful at all for me, I was barely paying attention bc I had my baby on me.

They shouldn't pull it. They did that to mine and it ripped. They didn't know though and I had a delayed hemorrhage a week later and had to have emergency surgery. I almost died from the mistake.
