Babies are born but away from me.
Sorry this is a long post and kind of confusing hope it makes sense and thank you for reading!
Little bit of history:
My babies along with many others from this group decided to become September babies. They arrived at 9:00 pm roughly on September 25th. I was only 35 weeks and 4 days. I was scheduled for a c-section on oct 3rd due to them being high risk twins. My labour and delivery was nothing like imagined.
Labour story:
My water broke at 2:30am and I got to my hospital for about 3:30 where they confirmed that it had broken (thought it had broken 18 hours prior and it hadn’t) they checked me and I was 2 cm dilated 100% effaced. They then informed me that there NICU was full so I couldn’t deliver at my hospital. I was very upset because I’m a planner and this was by far the nicest hospital in the city. It’s only 5 yrs old, everyone gets their own room, they don’t have visiting hours you can come anytime... anyways I was not happy that I had to be transferred but I went with the flow and what was best for my babies: They called other hospitals and I get admitted to the one with a high risk NICU. They take my fiancé and I by ambulance to the new hospital and we arrive for about 5am. My plan walking into labour was for a scheduled c-section by choice not out of medical necessity. When I get to my new hospital I’m labouring pretty badly and I’m in a lot of pain. The dr comes by and asked if I want to try for a natural birth since both babies are head down. I say that I would like to stick to plan of c-section so while I’m doing all the paper work the dr is sent off to another delivery. So I’m just waiting for him to get back to do the section. While I’m waiting the nurse is sitting with me coaching me through the contractions that I’m having and she decided to check me and I am 5 cm dilated. She then talked to me again about a natural birth and decided to give it ago since I was already 5cm and felt pretty good considering. They offered the epidural right away but I wanted to wait and labour with out it for a while. They transferred me to a labour suite where I met my next dr who told me that I was progressing very well and wanted me to get the epidural placed right away even if they didn’t put the medicine through yet because it was a twin delivery. I decided since they were putting it in to just get epidural medicine then anyway. They checked me again at about 1pm and I was 8-9 cm dilated. They then checked me again at 4 and I was 9 1/2 keep in mind this whole time I haven’t felt anything because of the epidural. They told me would be pushing in 30 min but they got called some where else and I didn’t end up pushing until 6pm. I pushed for three hours and was just exhausted I hadn’t slept or eaten either which didn’t help. The dr decided that he had to use forceps to get Baby A out. She was stuck on my pelvic bone and no matter how hard I pushed she wouldn’t come out. They had them top up my epidural before doing so which thank goodness he did. While he was getting A out I tore really badly and started to lose a lot of blood. This cause me to start shaking uncontrollably. I then had to push out Baby B, but after A came out my contractions practically stopped. So I was trying my hardest to push while I was shaking and felt/had no help from contractions. The dr made the call that it was to dangerous for me to keep trying so reached up my vagina all the way up to his elbow pulled B down closer to my vagina and then used the forceps to pull her out the rest of the way. By the time B is out I’m barely awake, I just keep shaking violently (I thought I was having a seizure) I barely remember her being placed on my chest for a couple seconds. He then had put his hand up me and forcefully remove my placenta. Around this time I passed out. I woke up with Ivs in my arms, catheter and feeling like shit. The babies were sent off to NICU and I was transferred to postpartum. They wouldn’t let me go see the babies until the morning and it kept getting pushed because I wasn’t well enough. At 5am they had to physically remove clots from my vagina one of the most painful things I have experienced. (They removed 12 clots) then said I wasn’t aloud to eat just incase they need to do it again I would be going to the OR. I finally got to go see my babies at 9am but I was only able to hold one do to extreme exhaustion. Around 11am I got the bad news that my babies were being transferred to another hospital without me. The good news was my babies were the healthiest to leave but I was devastated because they had to leave me and I had only held one and saw them for only 30 min. Luckily before they left I got to go over and spend about an hour with each of them. So now I’m just trying to recover as fast as possible so that I can go to my babies 👶👶 I’m missing them like crazy!
Born on September 25th both weighing the same at 5 pounds and 8 ounces!
