Today my Mom told me that black people wash their meat and white people don’t. This came up because I’m cooking dinner and I don’t wash the chicken and since she was supposed to season it and she took it to the sink and started washing it and I stopped her; saying she’s causing contamination. It just bothered me that my own mother is kinda telling me I act white (not the first time I’ve been told this from black folks).

She goes into this whole thing about chickens having cancer so chicken farmers cut the chicken into pieces and sale the parts that don’t have cancer.

Mind you, I always properly cook meat so it shouldn’t have bacteria. My Mom cooks her meat until it’s dry and has the consistency of shoe soles.

Tell me your ethnicity and if you wash your meat?

Btw I know this sounds nuts.

Edit: I’m kind of alarmed at how many people are washing their meats, so I’m adding this information from the USDA.

Cooking meat properly is better than thinking you can wash off bacteria.

Please note: my Mom is a loving caring intelligent woman and I love her. She’s my bff, so please don’t make any negative comments about my mother.
