Can anybody give me tips on public speaking ?

I have an jnterview at my job for a higher position . It involves running a department in which I will have to get my team together and go over numbers and announcements and all that . But I get very nervous, I start getting my words out of whack, get the sweats and blush .. how can I just be chill ? Please help ! It’ll be with a department that is new to me, as well .

The more you do it, the easier it becomes. I went from terrified to now I could wing it not giving a shit about anything to anyone. Sign up for groups that get you to speak, even just church or something.

Can you write and take in a few little key note or prompt cards with you? Just with a few handy bullet points on them to jog your memory? It’s handy to have a back up/safety net and gives your hands something to hold (in case you’re a fidgeter like I am). I use to write speeches for my old boss (he was an IT Director) and he still took notes into speeches with him. Good luck!

Find a friendly or familiar face and pretend you are having a conversation with them. Then pick someone else on the other side of the room or look at the back wall. Read your notes. Make eye contact with a few people. Take a deep breath. You can do this.
