Does the dad speak Mandarin or Cantonese? Or his family. Because the pronunciation is totally different so whether a name works in both whichever Chinese language and English would depend on which language.
My name sounds great in both English and Mandarin. Sasha in English, and 莎莎 in Chinese, pronounced Sha Sha in Mandarin (although people in the south seemed to say Sa Sa instead). But I have no idea about Cantonese.

My husband is half Vietnamese. His dad and brothers names are Quyen (Quinn) and his sisters are Qhloe (Chloe), Qarmin (Carmen) and Qori (Korrie). I just Love have the names all spelt with Q’s like that. Very different and unique but still pretty common names.
