Is circumcision necessary for boys?

I recently saw a post on Facebook describing in detail how the procedure is done, and showed images of how they actually strap the newborn down into restraints, and how different the babies act after the procedure is done, and it TERRIFIED me. I don’t want to put my sweet little boy through that much pain so young. It sounds horrific. Before seeing this post I was dead set on getting my son circumcised when he was born , now I’m not so sure.

If circumcision were necessary, all of Europe would practice it, but it’s actually quite rare here and only done for religious reasons. I’m mom to a happily uncut son, and married to a happily uncut European man

Whatever post or pictures you saw is such a dramatic tale by anti-circs. I respect people who are against it or for it but I wish they wouldn't be so dramatic.
My first son is circumcised and I watched his entire procedure. They did not strap him down or anything. It took a few minutes and was so fast. He never cried and actually was asleep happily sucking on his pacifier. 
He cries more when he gets vaccines. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna vaccinate him.

My husband and I decided against it. If it wasn’t supposed to be there it wouldn’t be.

It’s obviously your choice, but make sure you research it before you decide. I’ve debated it and decided that there really aren’t any benefits to doing it. It isn’t necessarily harder to clean and really it does seem like an unnecessary procedure to me.

It’s a personal decision, honestly. I will say that I’ve seen some outdated videos and photos of the procedure itself. Most doctors don’t practice the same techniques as they did 20+ years ago... for example, my nephew was never strapped down to anything during the process.

Those posts are fear mongering posts. I have 4 nephews, 3 circumcisions I was present for at my SIL’s request because she couldn’t be. None were strapped down, all were given pain medicine, none cried or acted different than before the procedure. That being said, research it (actual studies - not Facebook or whatever) along with your SO and come to a decision together on what you think is best for your baby. Most of the world doesn’t do it, and rates are lowering in the US and Canada so there’s less of a chance of your son being bullied in school locker rooms for being intact.

I did a lot of research before my son was born. I was leaning on not doing it because I find it unnecessary but my husband strongly believed we should. So we did. He cried for maybe 20 seconds and that was it. Never had any problems.

It’s your choice. I did with my son. I felt really bad and about cried and was second guessing myself about it when they took him back. But when he came back sleeping literally 5 minutes later, I felt okay. And he’s never had any problems with it.

Why do both options say painful😒 its cleaner circumcised and for some reason more preferred now days. Otherwise its just an uncircumcised penis its really not that big of a deal

I think it’s unnecessary. My babies father wants my son to be circumcised, and I don’t want my son to feel any different from his father so I’ve decided to do it. I don’t think its wrong or doctors wouldn’t offer the procedure. But I do agree that it’s really only for cosmetic reasons, and a small risk of infection
