How important is room sharing?

Question

Has anyone had their newborn sleep in their own room right away? I know it’s recommended to room share, but I’m not sure I want to buy a bassinet if I don’t need to.

We used a pack and play with the bassinet insert. He slept in our room until about 6 months. Then his sleep and ours got bad. So we moved him to his own room into the crib. Then the pack and play was used when we traveled and for a play space when he came to work with me.

I personally think it’s extremely important with the exception of those few babies that are independent. They are used to being in your belly, it’s all they know, and then to expect them to be alone and you not near by is not ok. Please keep in mind, this is just my opinion, I’m not a doctor or anything like that.

There is a lot of evidence that having baby sleep in your room up until they're 6 months can reduce the risk of SIDS. 
Obviously not everyone chooses to have their baby in their room, but personally I found it easier to have my daughter in my room as I was there immediately for feeds or if she needed settling.

I will be FTM in a few weeks I couldn't imagine her sleeping anywhere but in the same room as me and next to me. I only have a 1 bed so we have no choice but I still would have her with me if I had extra room. 💕👶

Just put their pack n play or crib in your room

My daughter slept in her crib in her room from day 1. I do not like co sleeping. I need my space and couldn’t sleep well if she was in bed with me and my husband. And I wasn’t gonna buy an expensive bassinet she ll sleep in for 4 months and then outgrow and have to get something else Plus I didn’t want to wake my husband up since he’s the one that worked and I didn’t so I was going to her room anyway when she woke up

Ours slept in the guest bed with us for the first week just because I couldn't climb the stairs to the nursery and bedroom, but after that he was in his crib most of the time.. the rooms were next to each other so we just slept with both doors open

We actually have done bed sharing with our daughter since day one but it’s not something that’s for everyone. Baby #2, however, will be sleeping in a crib in our room. Makes it easier to keep a good ear on them while they sleep of if they fuss awake. It’s said to significantly reduce the risk of SIDS as well.

I had a bassinet, room shared and my son hated it! He needed his own space and slept so well! Every baby is going to be different.
