My mom thinks my 11week old baby should be on a diet....
So, my daughter was born 2 weeks early and weighed a healthy 7lbs 15oz. She has been an absolute joy! As a FTM, I worry about little things constantly. After a rough couple first weeks of nursing, she really latched on and you could tell that she was gaining weight! Which I figured was great! At her 2 month check up, she weighed 14lbs 3 oz! She was also 24 inches and the doctor said she was healthy. So, while everyone else is saying "oh, that means her mama's doing well!" my mom just saw her today and while holding her she said "whoa, she's really solid. Do you think she should be on a diet or something?!" And no, she wasn't joking. She's usually very nice but will sometimes say something off the wall. My reaction was "really? The doctor said she's fine and how could she get on a diet if I'm her only food source?" She then back pedaled and said she was just used to my niece who's 16m old and was always long and skinny and weighs only 19lbs. I feel that moms deal with "mom guilt" quite a lot and not only did the comment make me feel like I was doing something wrong, I also felt fat shamed on behalf of my daughter AND myself because perhaps what I'm eating isn't good for her. Basically, I just feel hurt right now. Am I overreacting? Have you had a similar experience? Part of this post is to just vent because I don't know who to tell (without them getting offended too and putting a wedge further between them (** cough cough ... my husband... cough cough **). Thanks for listening!
