My son is 12 days old and his umbilical is falling off. I’m kind of really freaking out. Is it supposed to look like this!?!

That looks infected or like it may have gotten pulled on accident by his clothes or diaper, I would get it looked at for sure. You’re supposed to clean it daily with alcohol so it will dry up.

Call his doctor do not put alcohol on it call his doctor don't take advice from strangers on the internet beacuse you don't know if rubbing alcohol will do damage or not

I have a question!! For anyone in these comments.. in order to prevent an infection do parents ever put anything over the umbilical cord so it doesn’t get tugged on by accident? Like a piece of gauze or something ? I’m asking because I’m pregnant with my first and I have no idea.

my sons bled a little when his was accidentally ripped off while changing his diaper, clean off the blood and look to see if the skin beneath is discolored or showing signs of infection, if its not, then keep an eye on it but dont worry about it too mich

Cooled boiled sterile kettle water in a bowl, with some cotton buds. Give it a real gentle clean. 
If once cleaned up it still looks infected I’d seek medical advice.

That looks like it’s been pulled and wasn’t ready to come away, this is why my daughter always wore vests and sleep suits. It stopped any accidental snagging. It should look really dry before it comes off, my daughters hung on for days by a thread, until it come away itself.

My baby’s cord looked similar ... just less blood. It was pulled on accident by his photographer ( newborn photo shoot). It was already half way before that happened. Our pediatrician told us to use some qtip with alcohol because that area needs to be dry and disinfected. Good luck!

It looks like it was pulled off on accident. Get some Qtips and rubbing alcohol, and clean it up as much as you can. Dont try opening up the belly button to clean it though, it is still healing on the inside.
