Forgiveness?

Question

What does forgiveness mean to you?
 Is there anything you could never forgive? 
Do you think certain people deserve forgiveness no matter what? (Parents, siblings, other family, etc)
Can you have a relationship with someone without forgiving them?
Can you forgive someone without having a relationship with them again?
Do you think you -have- to forgive someone in order to heal from what they did to you? 
Do you think you can heal from a past hurt without forgiving the person who hurt you? 
Sorry if this is too deep or not controversial enough for CC. I'm just going through shit and my therapist isn't returning my calls right now 😂

I think forgiveness is about the person doing the forgiving more than the person being forgiven. I think holding onto negative emotions, pain, fear, sadness, anger etc eats away at your energy. It takes twice as much energy to not forgive than it does to forgive and move forward. To forgive is to heal. I will add, forgiveness doesn’t mean things go back to the way they were. It’s entirely fine to forgive someone and still not allow them a place in your life.

Yea, I don't ever plan to forgive my ex for kidnapping my son for nearly six months during our divorce, stealing all my property and money, and selling my two dogs. And I sleep quite well at night living with the notion of never forgiving him. I do not need it to be happy. I kinda think people that believe they have to forgive to be happy have difficulty moving on in life, because I'm perfectly capable of separating my new, very happy life, from my complete disdain of him.

I will always be willing to forgive someone who has wronged me. They would simply have to ask and say they were sorry. 
Forgiveness doesn’t automatically mean things would go back to the way they were before, sometimes there are consequences for a person’s actions that cannot be undone.

I we personally need to forgive for our own healing.  Forgiveness does not equate to remaining together or continuing to be friends.  Forgiveness is about letting go of the pain and not feeling like you are owed something or that revenge and equal offense to the other is due.  Staying angry or not forgiving is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies ... it just doesn't do us any good to hold on to that crap.

I’m a very forgiving person. You may not notice it on here because I tend to be snarky and not have a filter but in person, I’m always told I’m way too nice and give people too many chances. 
There are three people on this planet that I will never forgive and will never talk to again. I try to forgive what happened for myself to heal, but it’s not always easy. 
I don’t always think forgiveness is necessary to heal though. For me personally, I refuse to forgive those people to remind myself to not let anyone do what they did again. Some things are just unforgivable.

This is way too many questions for me to answer but I will say this. I forgive people and then I forget them. If you’ve betrayed my trust once I have no time for you. I always eventually get over it but I never let people back in. I keep my circle small, mostly family... for the few friends I let in I have VERY high expectations. Don’t talk about me behind my back to other people, don’t talk shit about other people to me (I don’t want to hear it), and be a decent person.

I'm so forgiving, I forgave my maid of honor for not showing up to my wedding. Her reasoning was that she was "waiting for the internet guy to show up." I still forgave her within a month. She then made a shitty post saying "I want someone to have a wedding! I really just want to dance and see love." 🖕🏼
I'll forgive most anyone once. After that, gtfo. I'm an incrediblely kind person. Too kind. My husband always gets on me for letting everyone walk all over me. If I'm being honest, I just want people to like me. So I let them treat me however they choose. I still don't have friends. I stopped letting people walk all over me after my best friend treated me like shit for the last time. 
I firmly believe that forgiveness is an important part of the healing process.
That being said, I still haven't forgiven my mother for everything she did to me. I don't know when I will. It's too much.
I will never forgive anyone for abusing my children on purpose. I say on purpose, because accidents happen. Kids get hurt, a lot. It's life. Anything on purpose, you're dead to me and I'll be involving law enforcement.

In the words of dr.phil you don’t have to forgive someone’s actions to forgive them. I’ve forgiven a lot of people for a lot of shitty things. My mom always tells me life is too short to hold a grudge.
