Infant car seats?

Is it better to get an infant car seat, then buy a bigger one when they outgrow it? Or is it better to get a convertible car seat that the baby can use as an infant up to 8-9 years? 
We’re having twins, and those convertible car seats look so heavy with all the layers and padding. But I also don’t want to have to buy a new car seats every year or two.

We bought an infant car seat/stroller combo first.  Then we bought a convertible car seat when he out grew it. The infant ones are so convenient because the one we had had a latch system where we could click it in and out of the base. So when we went somewhere,  we didn't have to wake baby up. We just unlatched the car seat from the base, clicked it onto the stroller and went about our merry way.

We bought a stroller/car seat combo first. Then bought a car seat he'll use until he no longer needs to be in a car seat, up to 65lbs.

I suggest infant carseats. Getting in and out of the car with one baby let alone 2 will be much smoother because you can just pop it out of the base. Snd then buy a carseat that adjusts as your babies grow. I used the infant seat until he was about 1.

It’s more personal preference. Infant seats are sometimes more convenient for newborns because you can lift it out of the base and use it as a carrier instead of having to get them out of the seat each time you leave the vehicle. Convertible seats have to stay in the car because they don’t have a separate base. 
With having two babies, it could get tricky either way, so you’ll have to decide which works best for your family. 
Most infant seats go up to at least 30 lbs, so you could theoretically be able to use them for quite a while; however, most babies outgrow the height before the weight limits.

We got an infant car seat to start out with because we are due in February and it’s brutally cold here! I’d rather not have to take the baby out of the car seat to bring them anywhere since it will be so cold. Since you’re having twins I think having infant seats would be easier to transport them to/from the car, but it’s a personal preferences

We have both, we’ll be using the infant car seat to start because it’s Click Connect to the base and strollers and we won’t have to keep taking her out and putting her back in the seat. Just unclick the seat from the base or stroller or whatever and then click her back in. The convertible seat is very large and doesn’t fit fully reclined in my car but will fit in my husband’s so once she’s riding in it, we’ll swap cars.

Economically a convertible seat. That’s what I chose. Outside of the car most people use an infant seat out of convenience. So do you want to just carry a baby or a baby in a heavy ass seat?

For my twins we are definitely getting infant car seats and when they get older we will switch to the bigger car seats. This way we can transfer them between cars more easily also.

We did the Graco click connect  that we could use with our stroller.  He is turning 2 and just coming up on the height and weight limit this week we will be switching over to a new car seat, so it was worth it for us, we got 2 years of use out of it.  Number 2 is due in a month and she will use the infant one.

I got a convertible with my first but I’ll be getting a travel system with my second. Primarily because I need the double stroller haha
