New born and toddler- how did you situate them in your car???

I drive a Ford Explorer and I’m not sure what makes the most sense when it comes to situating the car seats once my new born comes. My toddler has always sat behind the passenger. 
**of-course all options are behind driver and behind passenger. 
Toddler- TD 
New born- NB

Newborn drivers side toddler on passengers is what we’ve done

The official recommendation is that the most vulnerable be center, then driver (more likely to protect driver side), then passenger. If toddler is forward facing they are the most vulnerable so should be center and newborn rear facing should be driver side. If that’s not possible for space, toddler should be driver, newborn passenger. If toddler is still rear facing the newborn would be most vulnerable so they would be center or driver depending on the vehicle

Have explorer too and we put toddler behind driver and newborn behind passenger bc she was rear facing . Rear facing seats take up more space & we like the driver to be able to move their seat to be comfortable. Not really sure where to put our next girl due in six weeks

My newborn has to be behind the passenger seat because the car seat behind the driver seat doesnt leave room for my hubby to have enough leg room to driver comfortably but I can move my seat up enough it works and the toddler is forward facing so it isn't an issue for his leg room

So with just the two kids I did nb driver side and td booster in passenger. But with three I’ll do td driver nb middle and 9 year old passenger.

With the two I honestly really liked having the newborn behind the driver and the toddler behind the passenger. There were times that I went out and I would only take the baby. That way it was easier to get the baby in and out which made me feel safer.

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and they both sit in the third row with my oldest on the passenger side since he gets dropped off at school. My middle row is two captains chairs so my newborn will be in the captain chair directly behind the driver seat since the way I drop my oldest off at school he’s goes out the passenger side. I have a Escalade esv
