Why can’t you lay on your back when pregnant?

Whenever you start feeling uncomfortable. It’s not something that you have to stop doing but at some point late in the pregnancy the baby puts pressure on your back and everything is so cramped up in there so it’s very very uncomfortable!

It puts pressure on your pelvis which can mess with your blood flow and it starts when you personally start to feel uncomfortable

Not until later on in pregnancy, later in second/beginning of third trimester. You have your main artery (your vena cava) that runs through your abdominal cavity and hoes up to your heart. The baby can put pressure on it and cause light headedness and shortness of breath. It can be uncomfortable for both of you, as well as mess with your heart rate and blood pressure (the more weight and pressure the more of the issue. So obviously the further along you are and the bigger the baby, the more of an issue it can be). It’s up to your comfort level basically. If you’re uncomfortable lying on your back, change positions and get comfortable :)

I’m 36 weeks and still wake up on my back here and there. It’s definitely not an issue until the latter half of your pregnancy— your uterus gets to a certain size and weight that it can press on an artery and cut off circulation. It only happens in a small percentage of pregnancies, and even when it does the body will alert you well before damage is done. I am in the small percentage of people for whom it’s a thing, and I will wake up with numb hands or, more often, feeling like I can’t breathe. My doctor told me not to worry about it since my body will alert me.
