Numbers really don’t matter??

Question

Is it true that as long as your HCG doubles it doesn’t matter what you start at? I know I ovulated late so I’m not 5 weeks based off my lmp. I had blood work done Thursday afternoon and it was 5, went back this morning for bloodwork and it was 12. More than doubled in less than 48hours. Doing more bloodwork next week but dr said I am 1-2 weeks pregnant. AF is now 4 days late. Can I still be hopeful? No bleeding or cramping.....thanks for your help.

Yes this is completely true. Women have a very very small amount of hcg in their blood when they are not pregnant - ranging from 1-4 normally.
If a women takes a blood pregnancy test and has a level of 5 she is considered pregnant. 
Which can obviously mean that if you start at a level of 1 when you get pregnant, you will go from 1-2 then 2-4 then 4-8 etc. So the numbers will take longer to get higher than if you started with a hcg level of 4 (4-8 8-16 16-32 in the same time frame).
