If you get a paid year, how soon would you start mat leave?

Where I live I get a year of paid leave that can start in my 8th month of pregnancy if I want to start mat leave early. I have a very physical job. Just curious if you can relate to my situation - when did you go on leave?  I’ve seen a lot of people say they only get 6 weeks so they’re working until they go into labour so I’m curious if it’s different for those who get more time? Thanks!

Work as long as you physically can...that means more time with baby.

I would honestly take the 9th month off if I could. 33 weeks and work is already becoming unbearable 🙄 (I’m a hairdresser)

I started my leave at 32 weeks. I'll have to go back when she is 6 weeks old but I could NOT handle my fast pace factory job any longer

I was signed off work at week 16 because I had no immunity to MMR and work we’re unable to put a risk assessment in place due to the environment I’m in, I used my sick leave up until 16th of September (my maternity can start 11 weeks before due date) so started maternity then on 16th of September, my full time maternity pay will end June of next year. I’m aloud to carry over 6 weeks of my holidays from this year so adding them to the end of my maternity next year, then can take 3 months unpaid (il see how the savings r) 
Il have 8 weeks holidays to use for  next year also so will use them up when possible.

We get 9 months off and I worked up until the end and my job is a physical job too I also took holidays at the end but I did this so I could be at home with baby longer do what you feel you can as at the end of my pregnancy I did get tired a lot easier and I worked nights which probably didn't help either lol I was shattered xx

Do you have medical option where you are? I have a physical job - currently 28 weeks and off on medical at this point till the baby is born and then a full 52 weeks of mat leave.
Worth checking into - Canada has 15 weeks medical before mat leave which is really awesome. Gives me time to relax and prepare for things to come 🤪

I worked until I delivered, but my job wasn't too physical. I'd work until you just can't anymore.

I had the same thing, I ended up having to leave earlier than I wanted. So my advice is to wait as long as possible without hurting yourself or baby. I wish I could’ve been off til my son was a year, I had to go back just before he was 11mo & I hated it. Are you in Canada by chance? Look into day care prices now because a lot of places hiked the price until 12-18mo since now you can take 18m
