Less fertile while breastfeeding?

Question

My son is 10 months old and still breastfeeding.
I’m 37 ...we are trying to have another baby before 40.
I was late for 5 days and I thought I was pregnant but I’m wasn’t.
My period came ...so sad 
My mom suggests me to stop breastfeeding my son if I wanna get pregnant soon. And she said if I keep breastfeeding my son.. chance to get pregnant is really hard. No kidding unfortunately. We tried the last 3 months. And nothing happened :(
I don’t want to stop breastfeed before he is one year old .
What should I do?

My son is two and I’m still breastfeeding.  I’m pregnant with my second.  We had no issues conceiving.  The only way it affected my fertility, was it delayed my period coming back.  I didn’t get it back until 16 months after having my son.  But once it came back we decided to try after a few months (we moved States etc, so we waited a bit), no issues. I’m 37.

Many women get pregnant while nursing and eventually tandem nurse. They breastfed during their entire pregnancy then go on to breastfeed the new baby. I did not nurse my son (not sure if it makes a difference) but I was still pumping around the clock and got pregnant at 10 months. So it’s definitely possible. Best of luck!

I was in the same boat! Had my daughter at 38, and wanted one more ASAP! :-) 
Am still breastfeeding my 22 month old, went to my OB back in June because I hadn’t gotten pregnant and been trying entire time after my daughter was born ( period came back after 6 months).  He suggested I wean.  I went from BF her 3 times a day to once a day, before her bedtime, and got pregnant in August.  I’m still nursing for a little at bedtime and am currently 12 weeks.  I’m 40.

Hmm..i heard on the contrary from my doctor. She told me to get in the mini pill if i didnt want to get pregnant while breastfeeding. I heard your more fertile.

I'm exactly in the same boat! I'm 37, baby is 5 months old and we'd like to start TTC when he's about 10 months old. So far no period, my doctor told me that at the moment the likelyhood of me getting pregnant is extremely low. We just started solids (very small amount), so my plan is to slowly build that up until he's about 8 months old and then probably wean him off. Half-heartedly I have to admit... I love brrastfeeding my little one, such a unique and wonderful experience!
