has anybody ever worked for a call center?

i just put in an application for a call center in my hometown, starting pay is $2 more an hour than what i currently make and this is closer to home. it also has a more flexible schedule, and unlike my current job i wouldn’t spend all day on my feet. i was just wondering if anyone has ever worked for a call center before? what was the dress code like? what was the work like. everyone keeps telling me that i’m going to hate it there and i’m worried but i hate my current job so i keep defending by saying that at least i would hate my job for an extra $2 an hour, lol. just anybody with knowledge on call centers care to tell me more about what it’s like?

Hope you like getting yelled at for an entire work day because people who work for call centers are the customers verbal punching bag. Most call centers have a huge turnover rate because of it.

My friend works full time at a call center. Her commute sucks, but she stays because the people are nice and the pay is good! She actually just got promoted too lol

I used to work at a call center for a cell phone company. The company itself was great and so was the pay, but the people that are calling in are not calling because they’re happy. I’ve been called every name in the book because they forgot to pay their bill. Not every place will be like that, I have friends that work in call centers and they absolutely love it. Just be prepared for some verbal abuse you may receive.

It really isn’t that bad. I worked for a medical software company in the call center/customer support area for 3 years. We’d have to fix anything that went wrong - doctors couldn’t eprescribe, the charts were frozen, could we help them set up a schedule for the practice until 2050 (<— Legit call of mine!!!) so darling with some people who thought they were allowed to treat us like servants, you can imagine many calls were difficult. The best advice I can give you is to never take anything personal from the person on the other end of the phone. Stick with that and you’ll be fine!!

I worked seasonal for an LLBEAN call center back in 2011 - it was so great! Pretty much just took phone orders from rich out of state people all day 🤷🏻‍♀️ Had the occasional complaint, but most people were great! I think I made $12/hr back then and its more now! It was a great gig at the time to bring in extra $$!!

I worked in a call center. The place wasn’t bad, my co-workers were nice, the pay was decent, and the hours weren’t bad either. It ended up not being for me. I hated the high call volume and having back to back calls and getting no time in between calls to get my head straight. Angry customers and getting yelled at and cussed at. It all just made my anxiety shoot through the roof. I was having panic attacks daily. Some people love call center work and they excel at it. If I didn’t have my anxiety issues, I might have been able to stay. But as it is...I just couldn’t.
