Kitty litter?

So I have heard that you shouldn't clean the kitty pan while pregnant, is this true? I have 2 cat's and live alone so who's going to change it for me? 🤷

I work as a speech pathologist and 100% do not change litter. Always wash hands after petting cats! I can’t tell you how many developmental speech delays I’ve seen that have been linked or caused by toxoplasmosis which is from the litter. Please, please, be careful!

if they're both completely indoor cats it lowers the risk of you getting toxoplasmosis. I'd say just really cover up your face enough if you do clean it and if you're really worried. I'm a pet sitter so I had to clean up some boxes until I was about 16 weeks but I didnt catch anything. just be cautious and keep covered you should be fine!

Yes they say that but I totally think it's just to get you out of doing it haha. Indoor cats are much less likely to be infected than outdoor ones. Outdoor cats are much more likely to go to the bathroom outdoors, so really you should be avoiding gardening too if you have outdoor cats or your neighbors do. Also if you wash your hands after cleaning the litterbox you reduce your risk even further. Wearing gloves and washing your hands reduces risk even more.

You just have to be extra careful. Wash hands and maybe wear a mask, I’ve worked in a cat rescue all 3 of my pregnancies and I change cat litter 30+ times a day 😂
