When does the doctor start checking you

When does the doctor start checking to see if you are dilating? I also feel like I won’t make it to 40 weeks and this is my first baby.

Totally depends on dr. With my first my dr started checking at 36. With my second I have a different dr and he doesn’t check till 39. A lot of dr don’t like check cause, 1. Messing with your cervix can start labor and 2. It honestly gives false hope. Dilation does not equal labor. Nor does not bring dilated mean labor is not near.

It’s not really needed until you are term/40 weeks unless you are having contractions, each exam is an infection risk (a low one but still) and won’t speed anything up unless they do a stretch and sweep to try get things started.

My midwives checked me at 34 last time because I felt I was dilating (I was 2-3cm) but I don’t think I was checked again until I was sent to antepartum at 36 weeks.
