Another sleep question

I know someone posts about sleep problems at least once a day on here but I need some advice. My 6 month old is waking up every 3 hours and won’t stop crying until I feed him. I don’t think he’s hungry I think it’s an association but he used to only wake once to eat. Could it be a growth spurt? He’s not in a leap according to wonder weeks. I’m dying here and I’m contemplating modified CIO if things don’t change. He sleeps in a pack and play next to our bed.
