Trouble with suck/swallow
Our little man is now 9 days old and was born via c-section at 39 weeks after 30 hours of labor that didnt progress. He lost about 12% of his birth weight. Pediatrician recommended supplementing breastfeeding with formula, which is when I noticed even though his latch was good, he wasnt actually swallowing anything. The lactation consultant diagnosed an ineffective suck/swallow and gave us a special feeding bottle (and I'm now exclusively pumping) which he responded well to and is now just 2oz shy of his birth weight.
The problem is the LC is recommending all kinds of interventions including finger feeding, craniosacral therapy, speech therapy, and ENT consult. At the follow up appointment with the LC today, baby was pretty sleepy and definitely was not performing his best. The pediatrician is super laid back and hasnt expressed any concerns. My husband and myself think that with time baby will get better with eating- we already have noticed a better suck/swallow pattern.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with suck/swallow or such a difference in assessments from pediatrician vs LC?
