Breastfeeding and marijuana?

Ok so this is prolly gonna make me sound terrible but I need to know. I’m due in January and I really want to breastfeed. But I want to be able to smoke again after I deliver. My question is would it be safe to smoke and breastfeed? And if not, would I be able to switch between formula and breastfeeding? And when would I be able to start switching between milk and formula?

I could be wrong but I believe thc can transfer through breast milk. It may not be harmful to babies but I wouldn’t want my baby to experience the effects of medications unless absolutely necessary.  I had a rule. Anything I wouldn’t take while pregnant I didn’t take while nursing.

Marijuana can be detected in your breast milk up to 6 days after smoking it. So it will be transferred to your baby. There is nothing safe or okay about it. If your want to smoke weed that badly just don’t bother breastfeeding, you’d be doing your child a favour.

I did a little research on this a couple months ago, and honestly there isn’t a lot of info out there. What I do know is this:
THC is a fat soluble molecule. This means it doesn’t just filter through your bodily fluids like alcohol does. It stores itself in fat molecules and can build up to higher concentrations the more often you smoke. Breasts are mostly fat, and can therefore potentially store it well, and in turn it could be passed through breast milk. 
Think about it like a drug test. If you were to smoke weed once, you could likely pass a drug test in a few days or so. If you’re a regular smoker, it could take months for your system to be clear and to pass a test. 
There isn’t a whole lot to say exactly what the risks are. Much like testing how much alcohol can damage a fetus during pregnancy, it’s not like anyone is going to volunteer to see if smoking weed will hurt their baby. But it is likely that there is some level of transfer. 
If you were to smoke once, is it going to severely harm your child? Probably not. A regular smoker definitely should NOT breastfeed. For me, someone who enjoyed the occasional toke before becoming pregnant, the unknown risk is just not worth it.

All good questions to make a safe decision. However there isn’t good science around any of the answers, since no one has been able to study it. Not even from other countries or good observational studies. I wouldn’t do it, if it was me, just because there is no way to calculate the risk.

My step mom smoked a lot while she was breastfeeding and her daughter has a lot of developmental delays. I wouldnt risk it.
