Did you get shoes when your LO was about to walk?

Question

My LO is 9 months and standing on his own and walks holding onto my hand. I asked the doctor if shoes were a good idea or not and he didn't really give me a straight answer, just said it is up to me. Is it more beneficial for my LO to wear shoes at this point or is it better to wait until after he starts walking?

Barefoot is recommended as often as possible when they start walking to assist with them learning to balance

Babies don’t need shoes to learn to walk, but I wanted my son to have them so that we could be out and about and let him take steps without being only on socks in public.

Barefoot as long as possible and then flexible soft shoes. Once a good walker, hard soles are okay.

Got my sons first pair of sneakers when he started walking by him self strid right very important to have the right shoes when they do. No need for them other wise it take a little sometimes for them to learn how to walk in them

There's no need for shoes until he's walking around flawlessly. Our daughter was walking on her own the day she turned 10 months and didn't wear her first pair of shoes until maybe 12 months. It's so important for their development to be barefoot as much as possible.

She was walking barefoot/in socks a few months before we learned about soft bottom shoes. You can find them at Target in the infants/clothing section!

Or you can go to a children’s secondhand store and find some too. We also use these:

Soft, so baby still learns balance.. and easy to clean! That’s a plus.

My son was barefoot/in socks until he was actually walking. I didn’t even buy him shoes for decoration, I think they are pointless lol 
That being said he’s been walking for the past 3 months & now has 3 pairs of shoes

Didn’t have my oldest in shoes till she was almost two since I carried her everywhere unless we were at home or a friends house

I have him wear shoes in public but at home hes always barefoot (refuses socks)
