Is it bad to pump soon after birth?

Question

I’ll be off work but I will be going right back to classes. I’m finishing my occupational therapy program and need to be there. I’ve heard it bad to pump before 6 weeks and I’ll need to start pumping within the week of her birth so my husband has something to give her while I’m gone.

My sister pumped from day 1 she couldn’t breast feed due to medical issues with my nephew. She had no issues

They showed me how to pump and encouraged me to do it to help build my supply at the hospital.  I never had to supplement the whole 15 months I breastfed for.

My son was born early and was very small, so his latch wasn’t great. I was encouraged to pump in the hospital (they brought me a pump in my room), in order to bring in my milk. I developed oversupply after a few weeks of feeding every 2 hours and pumping after each feed, so I stopped pumping since I didn’t need a reserve.

I've been pumping since day 1 and my baby is 7 weeks now. He wouldn't latch so it was either pump or give up and go to formula. I've had to supplement here and there (trips, on meds that dipped supply some for a bit) but he's pretty much been on just breastmilk this whole time and I have a few bags in the freezer. Not a big stash, but a day or two worth.

They say not to...I did as soon as my milk came in because my son had latch issues for a month or so. Never caused any issues for us, I've always had a good supply
