Staying together "for the childrens sake", is actually not in their benefit at all. Children growing up with parents that show no love or compassion towards each other.. showing the kids what a marriage shouldnt be isnt benefiting them. Its best to divorce.

That would break my heart. I have always told my partner that I would prefer to be heartbroken from having him leave me rather than find out that he stayed with me out of o ligation or because he didn’t want to hurt me. 
If he stayed with me even though he didn’t love me I would be so hurt and embarrassed.
