ABA therapy line tech
Hey guys I have been getting interviews at ABA therapy centers and I just had a couple of questions.
My mom worked at an ABA center for one summer between school years (she’s a prek teacher) to see if she wanted to switch jobs. She has scarred me for life because when I went to interview at the ABA centers she asked me if I really wanted to work there because I’d get beat up. Which honestly kind of scared me. I know kids with autism can get aggressive don’t get me wrong but I’ve had some experience with nanny jobs to kids with autism and they could get aggressive but they were the sweetest kids on the planet! I also only have experience with younger kids with autism so I’ve never dealt with a teenager or “stronger” kid who’s aggressive. Is it really that I will get beat up or is it just that there will be some hard days? I know this job isn’t for everyone but my mom has me scared when I thought I was more prepared than just some person whose never had experience with autistic kids. At first I thought my fear was just due to my inexperience with older kids but now I’m psyching myself out. I don’t want to pass up a job if it will be where I’m meant to be but I also don’t want to start a job and have rose colored glasses on. Please help in any way possible. Tell me the good the bad and the ugly, I want to make the right decision for myself.
Background: I’ve only ever been a nanny and a receptionist because of my ptsd and epilepsy. Now that those are under control I wanted to branch out and try new things so please don’t dog on me for being 21 and just now getting a “real” job. Thanks!
