Overly sensitive?

I had gotten a pair of maternity pants from my cousin today. I am 16 weeks pregnant. I asked my SO to go out and get them and he comes back in, throws them on the bed and says “there’s your fat girl pants”. I know he was joking and told me he loved me right after. But it still bothered me. Am I just being overly sensitive?

He likely didn't mean anything like it, but yeah it pisses me off when people refer to pregnant women as fat. You're not fat, you're growing his child and sacrificing your body to do so, he needs to be more sensitive than that.

I would tell him that hurt my feelings. Otherwise he might do it again thinking it’s just teasing. My last pregnancy my mom kept calling me “the big fat pregnant lady” and I finally had to tell her that it was hurting me and I didn’t like it. It’s not a joke if one of you isn’t laughing

Um no. I wouldn’t like that at all. I’m fricking huge at almost 36 weeks (like totally look like I’m having twins) and my husband never says anything rude like that. You’re not fat you’re growing a child. I’d be putting him in his place because once you get bigger the comments might start coming regularly if he thinks it’s okay and that’s when you’re going to have a hard time with your body.

He may not have meant anything, but I don’t blame you for being offended. I hate when my husband makes jokes like that because I get really self conscious when pregnant. Heck, today he said I didn’t need to do my hair and change my clothes to go to the store because it’s not like anyone is looking at a married pregnant woman. I cried for a while and still am angry about it. I don’t think men really understand what we sacrifice when being pregnant.
