Right hand or left hand??

Okay ladies so after getting engaged over the weekend , I had my ring on my left hand but my fiancé had his on the right ?? So I asked him”are you sure it’s the right hand?” He said “yes ,you wear it on the right hand and then when we’re married you put it on the left .” 
Opinions??? Answers?? Lol please .

I feel like when I was younger, I feel like I was told engagement is on right hand and marriage is left hand. However I just read up on it and it looks like some cultures wear the engagement ring on the left hand until marriage where they transfer it to the right hand. Wedding/marriage band then goes on the left hand. It seems more common however to stack them. So maybe the confusion stems from that trade off.
