I was asked out and just told him my mom wouldn’t let me. I’m closeted so I couldn’t really say that lol. My friend said to just say no but I felt like that was rude because he was kinda sensitive/shy.

How about just be honest? You can say no politely, just tell him you don't feel that way about him. Lying is usually not the way to go in any situation, it's bound to come back to bite you

You know, it happened to me that guys agreed to go out with me but were not really interested. I was really sad and couldn’t figure out why they would say yes in the first place. To me it was worse than an actual rejection. Just be honest out of respect for the guy!

It leads him on a little to blame your mom. Like maybe he has a chance later. Might not matter or it might cause problems later for you or him. I get why you said that though. Much as I think it's not the best thing to say, I probably would do something similar.

Im like you—I don’t like turning ppl down. If he asks again I would say nicely that you see him as a friend and don’t want to ruin your relationship. You’re not obligated to tell him you don’t like men, that’s your business
