Gender

I’m conflicted on when I want to find out the gender. For my first we had them write it on a sealed envelope and gave it to my friend for the gender reveal. I don’t know if I want to do the same have it be a surprise or if I just want to find out the old fashioned way (i.e in the ultrasound room). Anyone have any perspective which is better?

Update: I just found out my SO will be missing the appointment due to being in Northern CA for business. So I plan to have the tech write it and place in an envelope and we will open it together when he gets back. That way we can find out together and not in front of people.
