Tacky baby shower?

So we just found out hubbys getting transferred out of state end of May. I’m due May 2nd, so the baby will only be weeks old. Anyways we’re moving from our little 2 bedroom into a 4 bedroom with appliances so we don’t really plan on bringing the fridge or washer/dryer or even couch because we would like to move it all in a pick up to save us a thousand dollars.

Well I can’t imagine we’ll have much room for anything other than our things and our daughters things. So is it tacky to ask for gift cards instead of gifts? So we can use them to get his things AFTER we move?
