First haircut?

My son will be 1 in a couple of weeks and his hair needs a bit of a trim. His hair is wavy/curly and fairly fine. It’s long around the ears and he gets these “wings” off the side of his head. But it’s fairly thin on top still—he kind of has that old man comb over look. So I basically just want it neatened up around the edges. I can’t imagine how we’d get him to sit still for a stylist, so I’ve been thinking about trying to cut it myself. But I’m so worried I’ll mess it up. Advice?

Check your local area for kids haircut places. They're kind of expensive but totally worth it. My twins were fine, even with crying the hair dressers are used to it. The place we went to even had TVs at every station.

My son has very similar sounding hair. We gave him a bath, put him in his high chair facing the tv, put on a Disney movie and gave him some Cheerios, and I brushed it and cut it myself. I was really careful with the scissors, and kept my fingers between his head and the scissors

Oftentimes you can sit with him in your lap in the barbers chair. They know what they’re doing. And sometimes first haircuts like that are even free

Go to a professional. It’s their job to cut hair. Find one who specializes in children. You’re likely to get a better result from a professional with experience cutting children’s hair.

My sons first haircut was at a children’s salon called Cookie Cutters. I live in Indiana but I believe they have locations in other states as well. They have TVs and themed chairs for the kids and give out balloons after the haircut. 
They had a first haircut package available where they take a picture of your child after the haircut and then save a locket of hair and frame it for you. It was around $20 for that package.
