Ebf baby only nursing every 4 hours ?

My lo only wants to eat one boob for 5min every 4 hours and it has to be me initiating it as he hardly cries or shows signs to let me know he’s hungry. If I try to feed him sooner he cries and doesn’t want to. At night he will go one 5-6 hour stretch then another 4 hour one. He’s gaining weight but it worries me how little he eats? Please respond if you are in the same boat 😩

Try initiating a feeding every 2.5 - 3 hours during the day. If he is gaining weight, I wouldn’t worry. At night time, you can feed only on demand. My baby is 10 weeks old and sleeps 10 hours through the night without a feed and is exclusively breastfeed. At 9 weeks he slept 9 hours, at 8 weeks he slept 8 hours, etc. all the way to starting to sleep 4 hours at 4 weeks (any sleep trying guide can help with this). Please note this is ONLY nighttime sleep. During the day you should wake baby to feed.

I have been panicking about baby not getting enough food since about 2 weeks old he nurses for 5-8 mins and he was doing that every two hours but last week he started going 3.5-4 hours between feeds. I bring it up every time he sees a doctor and they all just shrug and say he is gaining weight so he must be getting enough I however hate it and it makes me really worried 😑

Mine eats both sides for like 5-6 minutes. But my boobs are empty when he’s done and he goes to sleep. He’s gained 4+ pounds since birth so I’m not worried. He will go one 7 hour stretch at night. Sometimes he only takes one side no matter how hard I try.

I wouldn’t worry about him gaining weight but maybe keep an eye on your supply with those big stretches in between. If it’s what you’re both used to you should be fine but I know mine goes 2-3 hours between feeds so a 6 hour stretch wouldn’t be good for us.
