Is the show catfish fake?

I just have a hard time believing so many people ate so stupid lol. First of all they can google names themselves and see if the person is legit or whatever. Then it’ll be an obvious catfish and there are so many red flags but they ignore them all. Some of them even send money and expensive gifts
