Bloody nipples 😖

So my son is currently 8 months old. Been breastfeeding no problem. When he started to get his bottom two teeth he would chew my nipple a little when he got full, and I think it would just be from teething pain. Once the teeth came through all the way he completely stopped, the pain went away and we have had no problems since. Until now. Now his top two teeth have popped through and my nipples are sore, scabbed and bleeding! When I nurse him it hurts so bad, and it doesn’t seem like he is biting me because he is actually eating. He has bitten me a few times when he has fallen asleep at breast and I feel that! I always try to make him unlatch and get a better latch but no matter what it still hurt.

Now I have always thought he had a lip tie because when he nurses his lip is tucked under and no matter how many times I try to flip his lip out it just makes him unlatch. I spoke to the doctor about it when he was two months old or so and he said he wouldn’t even look into it because he was gaining weight properly so it wasn’t causing feeding issues and it would just be painful to him. But now it’s causing a lot of pain to me!!

So I’m wondering if this is just a phase since he is teething and he just has to get used to the teeth being there, or if there is actually a tie.

Any mamas gone through something similar or have any advice? Would love to hear any feedback you have!
