Bleeding in wk 30. Here's what happened.

Is

This happened last week, took me some time to write it down because of the emotional aftermath. But I thought it might help other women with their fears so here we go.

After some active days for both, me and the baby, I bled. It was old brown blood and fresh red. It had been a busy morning and I had not felt her since waking up several hours ago. I kind of went numb, only functioning at that moment.

I live in Germany and usually we don't go to the ER but to our Gyn Doctor. Unfortunately, I was visiting someone out of town.

I called the nurse at my Obgyn and she told me to go to the ER. I was driven there, handed in my name and my emergency contacts and was at the baby heart-rate monitor some minutes later.

We immediatly saw the girl is alright. Strong, normal heartbeat, fluctuating but not in an unnormal way. Two midwives and a MW in training kept dropping in and I had to lie down for an hour. In that time, they took my data and announced I was to stay there (apparently a standard thing). In the room next door, a baby was born and it's beautiful crying made me really happy (in a weird aftershock-way).

After that, I had to wait for the hospital's Gyn-ER doctors. They did several vaginal checks and an ultrasound to check on baby and placenta. The fresh blood came from a minor blood vessel that was ruptured, a common thing in pregnancy I learned. They could not find a reason for the older blood (it was quite an amount), but baby and placenta are alright. I was allowed to leave in the late afternoon, saw the last blood at dinnertime, nothing after that. No restrictions on movement or anything.

The baby is very small (3%) and I'll have to do more appointments now ("growth control"), but the measurements "fit", so there are no worrying numbers or deviations so far. I'll know more tomorrow.

What I learned: Always go in right away. Every midwife and doctor said that again and again that day. It does not matter that bleeding often means nothing. Just go in and have them find out. Do not EVER ask non-professionals. They can't help you.

And stay calm. I used to work in breaking news where freaking out is a waste of time. This really helped me. You have symptoms, you have them checked. It was 25 Minutes between me finding the blood and seeing the heartbeat.

Thank you for reading this! Keep your fingers crossed for my appointment tomorrow :-)
