Update on our journey

Je

Hey twin mommas. I know I update ya'll a lot but i think it's kinda of nice to know the journey from both sides.

My twins are now a week and 4 days old. Wow, what a wild ride already.

Things that have worked well for me: getting ready each day and taking a shower. It really helps me feel better and less depressed. Taking shifts with sleeping because let's be real, the feeding routine takes about an hour and a half. I tandem breast feed both boys at the same time. It's amazing. It takes time and patience. My nipples are Basically raw all the time but the bond is amazing. I got SO frustrated in the hospital because everybody kept saying "wait until your milk comes in" and it hurt so bad. But honestly I just didnt give up and were feeding so well now. I also pump after each feed and have a huge stock of frozen milk in my freezer. I feed and pump and get about 4-6 oz after each feed. We also supplement with formula (half breast milk half formula) so our twins get the extra calories and gain weight.

They sleep for about 3.5 hours a stretch, wake up to eat, and then go back to sleep. They aren't awake often and I think that's because they are preemies (or we are just lucky). They have made their own schedule at night. They go to bed at 11. Wake up at 1:30. Go back to bed and wake up at 5 am.

Were figuring out our routine, especially with the older two. We dont really want help at this point because it seems like we have to entertain people when they come over rather than them help out and thats more exhausting than anything.

My hubby has been a great help. He jumps in when I feel overwhelmed and always keeps his cool. Usually when he is overwhelmed he just starts making things silly, and honestly I think that's how we both have kept our sanity through this.

Just take one day at a time, one hour at a time, reach out to people when your depressed, and take care of yourself.

Heres some pictures of my cuties 😍
