When should I start dating?

I’m in 8th grade and there is this guy I really like. We already went to a school dance and I’m thinking about asking him on a date. I think he’ll say yes but I’m nervous. My best friend is already dating and my other BFF is going on a date with my twin brother soon. Sophie (the one going out with my brother) said that we could do a double date. Would that make it easier?
