Fibroid Surgery, Now Pregnant!

Jessie

I had a laparoscopic myomectomy a few years ago to remove one large fibroid (the size of a softball) from my uterus.

The surgery was successful, but I was told (before getting surgery) that I will only ever be able to deliver a baby by c-section and will never be able to deliver vaginally because if I go into labor, my uterus could rupture and that can be fatal for both myself and baby.

I was willing to get the surgery, because if I hadn’t, there would have been a very good chance I would never be able to bring a child full term. The fibroid was also causing extreme pain, terrible periods, and if I laid down flat, you could see the bump where it pushed my stomach out!!

That all being said, I am now 7 weeks pregnant—and although I had the surgery a few years ago and have had no further fibroids since then, I am still pretty devastated that there is no way I can deliver naturally. I have always felt so strongly about my body as a woman being capable and built for this job to give birth! To know I’ll never experience natural birth as I believe my body is meant to has me pretty bummed. It is so different having a child surgically removed versus the emotion and effort and intensity that is natural birth😣 but of course, my husband and I are still so thrilled to be expecting our first child together, and will be happy as long as the baby is healthy.

I am curious if any of you in this group have had fibroid surgery and then gone on to have a successful birth (either naturally or by c-section)?
