Need some help..

So yesterday, my fiancé, stepson, and I went to my parents house for early Christmas. We left our dog with my in-laws because we live in their full basement. Well my in-laws put our dog in her kennel in the basement last night. Which should be no problem because she has done it before when we were there. But last night, she was in her kennel, in the basement, alone. She managed to break out of her kennel, tear up a large chunk of carpet, ripped up her blanket, and pee and poop everywhere. My in-laws also said she was howling and barking all night long. But no one thought to check on her, no one thought to leave her upstairs so she wasnt alone. So now my in-laws are pissed up at us. We told them we will pay to have the carpets replaced, but they sit here and blame us when it could have been preventable. Right?
