Should I ask him out?

There’s this guy I like that is sort of a family friend and he’s one year older then me. He doesn’t go to my school but I have showed my friends his Instagram and some of them follow him. One of my friends thinks it’s not a good idea because he posts stuff about wanting a girlfriend sometimes and I don’t know if I should trust him. He’s really nice and funny and I really like him. My friends have never met him so they have no reason to not like him.
