Breast feeding/pumping/supplemental formula

This little guy made his appearance into the world on 12/25 :) my little Christmas baby. I am a first time mom and my boyfriend is a first time dad. I have so many questions!!

I started breast feeding him in the hospital. He does great. Latches on all by himself gets the colostrum out because I don’t think my milk supply is in yet.. he started cluster feeding and my boobs hurt soooooo bad. No blisters or anything like that he did leave one hickey but he also left scabs, as if they were bleeding. I couldn’t push through the pain anymore and finally supplemented the first bottle the first night we got home with the enfamil (purple one for belly etc) he loved it I gave him 2oz. This made me happy because I knew he was getting enough. Yesterday I breast fed him after I got the amazing nipple cream to sooth my nipples! Worked like a charm nursed out of both sides 2 feedings! When he woke up for the next feeding I couldn’t take it anymore it again started to hurt so bad I was trying to not tense up so he wouldn’t feel it! He takes the bottle like a champ but I don’t want to confuse him! I haven’t started pumping yet because I’ve been told to wait until my milk comes in etc. but I can’t even touch my boobs or have my boobs touch anything without being in excruciating pain! I want to breast feed because there are so many benefits and I want what’s best for him.. will it hurt my boobs even more to pump and then feed him that way? Should I just give up and give him the formula instead? What would you do please I’m desperate on this first topic.
